Cornish Chough Spring flowers

 Godolphin House

GODOLPHIN ESTATE

Beautiful and romantic historic house and garden, where time has stood still, giving the house, garden and surrounding estate buildings a haunting air of antiquity and peace. The garden is largely unchanged since the 16th century. The house seen today is a remnant of a far larger building that was the home of the Godolphin family until the middle of the 18th century. The Godolphins, who made their wealth from the local tin-mining industry, were one of the leading families of west Cornwall.

Georgian and Victorian gardens, representing the styles of those periods, are being restored and conserved. The Jewel in the crown, at the heart of the estate, 70 acres of enchanting gardens and grounds featuring one of Cornwall's largest and most diverse plant collections set within magnificent formal, informal and woodland areas.

PENROSE ESTATE

The Penrose estate surrounds Cornwall's largest natural freshwater lake Loe Pool which is separated from the sea by a great shingle bar. The wooded valley provides a pleasant walk from the lakeside to the coast with the shingle bar.

Surrounded by the farm and woodlands of the Bonython Estate, the gardens comprise a sweeping driveway with Hydrangeas and Specimen Trees with formal planting around the Georgian Manor (not open).

Trelowarren lies close to the River Helford. This spot has been inhabited for thousands of years and the Iron Age Halligye fougou is very near. The estate was mentioned in the Domesday Book and has been owned by the Vyvyan family since the first part of the 15th century.

GLENDURGAN GARDEN

Set in a wooded valley dropping steeply to the hamlet of Durgan on the shore of the beautiful Helford estuary, Glendurgan is one of the great sub-tropical gardens of the South West. Exotic trees and shrubs flourish amidst open glades carpeted with wild flowers. This garden is unique with its superb subtropical garden and restored 19th-century laurel maze.

Trevarno Estate Garden dates back to 1246. It is a wonderfully relaxing 35 acre Victorian garden with a treasure chest of interesting features including the Italian Garden, Lake and boathouse. There is also a National Museum of Gardening, Soap Museum and Toy Collection display
